Take Care Of Yourself

One of the things many of us do not do well is taking care of ourselves. We’ll run, volunteer, work, & over-commit ourselves to everything & everyone, but ourselves. Does this sound familiar? Believe me, I know. This got me to thinking about being on an airplane & how they make the announcement regarding in the event of an emergency, put your own mask on before assisting someone else. Wow, how rare this is in other areas of our lives.

Of course there will be times in which we won’t have a choice in helping someone before ourselves (ex: I know many who are caring for elderly relatives). But are more of your times helping someone else before checking on yourself, your health, your home, etc.? Many are so stressed by what’s going on around them & their full plates that the warning bells are being ignored until that doctor’s visit with some news that opens eyes.

Also, take a step back to see if you’re the only one or the main one in movement in these situations and/or relationships. For example, are you the main one going here & there, investing your time & energy? Are you the only one calling, making the effort? Are you bone-tired, or drained, after doing all of these things? If yes, you’re likely on the road of not putting your own mask on first; & very likely the only one investing in these situations or people. Don’t let people take advantage of you & especially do not ignore your own well-being in the process.

On the seventh day, even God rested & said let there be rest: And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. –Genesis 2:2 (NKJV)

In the midst of being there for everyone & everything else, be sure to take care of YOU! If you don’t, no one else will.

Until next time.

Blessings,
