Scripture: 1 Samuel 1:8 Then said Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?
Nugget: Hannah was depressed and weeping because she was barren. Her husband could not imagine why she was not satisfied, given that he loved her, treated her well, etc. He said, “am not I better to thee than ten sons”? We must learn to realize that people’s rejection or desires are not about us – it’s about them, and what they want – it’s irrespective of you. Hannah wasn’t saying her husband was better to her or worse than ten sons, but all she was saying was she wanted a child – period. Didn’t matter how good or how bad her husband was; was irrespective of him. Don’t be an Elkanah – try not to judge/measure yourself through people’s desires or requests.
