Daily Scriptures 8/17/10

Scriptures: II Corinthians 10:17-18 17As the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the LORD.” 18When people commend themselves, it doesn’t count for much. The important thing is for the Lord to commend them. (NLT)

Nugget: Nothing we have or do is by our own might, but by God’s! We should not boast about what “we” have, do, or accomplish; it’s all because of God. He gives us the knowledge to achieve the goals & dreams He’s instilled in us; He gives us the jobs to live according to our needs (& sometimes wants!), & so much more.

If you boast, boast about what the Lord has done for you; His role in your life! Acknowledge His presence & power. Thank you, God! Where would we be without You?!

Quote: “You are not mature if you have a high esteem of yourself. He who boasts in himself is but a babe in Christ, if indeed he be in Christ at all. Young Christians may think much of themselves. Growing Christians think themselves nothing. Mature Christians know that they are less than nothing. The more holy we are, the more we mourn our infirmities, and the humbler is our estimate of ourselves.” –Charles Spurgeon
