A few months ago, one of my favorite actresses, Kimberly Elise, tweeted a question. The question was: “What advice would you give your younger self in two words?” What a question, huh? Well, the funny thing is, it didn’t take me long to have an answer. I would tell my younger self to: LIVE LIFE.
I was one (& am still one) to be a workaholic. From the time I was old enough to work, I did. Mainly, without me working to support myself, many things couldn’t & wouldn’t get done; there weren’t too many people I could go to for help. This work included getting good grades to get scholarships, to keep scholarships, to pay bills, & more. This is definitely the story for many of us. So I’m sure many can relate. But somewhere along the way, I do think that I forgot to live life & to have more fun. Now don’t get me wrong, I did have great times & great friends, but I looking back, I could’ve “stopped & smelled the roses” more. Maybe slowed down just enough to take it all in & to just breathe.
With this being said, the more mature version of myself now knows to enjoy the journey of life. (As we all know, it definitely passes quickly) For me, living life means to try to do the things I’ve been putting off for years. For me, living life means to love more & to the best of my ability, without restrictions that I subconsciously put on myself. For me living life means to laugh more, to grow more, to forgive more, & to make lasting memories. These are just a few of the things I pray to do.
The past few years have taught me so much about living life to the fullest. Life is one of the best gifts we have; in living to see another day, God’s grace has been granted. I thank Him for it.
Yes, I would tell my younger self: LIVE LIFE. One of my most favorite quotes is: “Live, Love, Laugh”. I intend to do just this.
