Encouragement

I recently had the pleasure of attending a Writers Conference where I met fellow writers from around the United States. This group of writers included those who were just beginning their writing journeys to those who’d just published their first books to those who’d published many books! The experience was enlightening because of the encouragement that was shared between us all; it was good knowing that we all had similar feelings about our writing journeys. Also, that we aren’t alone in the journey because our feelings, & overall experiences, weren’t isolated to us alone.

I’ve been in the process of writing my first book for a few years or so now. I can admit that there has been fear along the way & there have been times where I’ve wondered if I could do it. However, I can also say that I’m further along than I ever have been & I am excited about how far I’ve come. There’s still a more to write & complete, but it’s certainly not like it was on Day 1 of the process. I will finish it.

My writing journey has revealed to me things about myself that I didn’t know existed & other things that I need to work on. One of these things include the ability to encourage myself in the same manner that I encourage others. I can say that the majority of the time I’m sharing something with others, while encouraging them, it’s for me too. But in mentioning this, I’ve put more emphasis on the share & encouragement of those around me to push them, to show them what God says about them, & to let them know that they can do what they set out to do. There isn’t anything wrong with this because I know it’s a God-given gift of mine, but I do have to “put my own mask on,” as they say on the airplanes, too. I’m learning more about how to do this.

So, while encouraging myself in this posting, I want to encourage you to let you know that you can do what you set out to do. Don’t let fear or doubt get in the way & be sure to spend time with God so He can reveal His will & purpose for you. If you are in doubt & are fearful, know that only you can do what God has called you to do the way that He’s called you to do it! Just as my fellow writers & I discovered at the conference, there is no comparison nor competition. Yes, we may all be writers, but each of us has a distinct journey & purpose for writing. Sure, we can each be writing about the same topics at times, but my experiences & background can only be used to produce the stories and/or books that only I can.

Know that God has something specifically in store for each of us! Don’t give up & take a step off the shore to see what’s beyond it for you. Live beyond the self-imposed limits or doubts. I plan to do the same!

Remember:

A man’s gift makes room for him, And brings him before great men. –Proverbs 18:16 NKJV

You can do it & so can I!

Until next time.

Encouragement

Many of us have these dreams & goals that we’ve been putting off “until the right time”. We may find ourselves not even putting them off, but coming back to them time & time again. You know, the one thing that if you didn’t get paid to do it, you’d still do because it’s your God-given gift or talent. I’m finding that this is the “thing” that God has called me to do.

The thing is, it may not come easy! We’ve all heard the saying, “Anything worth having is worth fighting for”, but it’s also worth working for. Most times, dreams & achievements don’t just land on us—there’s a process to getting there—there’s a story behind it. One of the things that I love to do is to hear the story behind the person; meaning, their journey to “getting there”. For example, Tyler Perry has a story!! Before he was known to many, he had serious struggles—from sleeping in his car to using his last penny to put on a production where a small number of people showed up! But he didn’t give up & look at where he is today; there definitely had to be times where he faced discouragement. It’s not that our success is defined in the same manner as his, as we seek different dreams from God, but our dreams are obtainable in Him as well.

Earlier this year, I did a posting on my Anchor Verses. I keep coming back to them & reminding myself of the things that I spoke then to remind myself to keep going forward now. One of the verses:

A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men. –Proverbs 18:16

Sometimes we get discouraged with the process or the status of our progress, but we must stay encouraged. As the scripture points out, the gift will make room for us! Sometimes these dreams & goals that God has put in us are what carries us in Him & opens the door that needs to be opened. Don’t underestimate the gifts that God has put in you—if you keep coming back to it (or it keeps calling you), know that God has a way of sending confirmation to you during the trying times of walking into your dreams & goals.

His plans for us will prosper—let’s not give up, but push on. Your dream is calling. Can you hear it?

Until next time.

Encouragement

I received the following quote and scripture in an email the other day:

“New day, new hopes, new life!!”

“Each day brings new life, new strength, new dreams and new hope. May you find courage, confidence and hope to reach out for your dreams.” -Lailah Gifty Akita

Lamentations 3:21-25 (NLT)… Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in Him!” The Lord is good to those who depend on Him, to those who search for Him.

It came right on time as there have been a lot of things on my plate lately; some of these things have caused me to feel a little discouraged. Many of us have felt like we’re working & working towards something, while at the same time feeling as if nothing is happening. These are the times when our faith is tested, but we need to refocus on God, the faith that we have, & get into His Word.

No matter what you’re facing, be encouraged & refocus on God—not the circumstances or situations you’re facing. God already has everything worked out.

Until next time.
