Daily Scriptures 11/4/13

Scriptures: Psalm 24:4-5 4He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully. 5He shall receive blessing from the LORD, And righteousness from the God of his salvation. (NKJV)

Nugget: Sometimes we need to do a self-check regarding our thoughts, actions, & character. We’re seeking so much from God, but are we in the right place? What do I mean by the right place? Are we reading the Word, taking quiet time to spend with God, keeping a pure heart & mind (in our actions & words as well)? What are we doing to show ourselves approved for the blessings we seek from Him?

I admit, sometimes, it’s as if I’m always asking God for something; there’s nothing wrong with asking, but am I also doing what it takes to grow in Him—sometimes what we’re seeking is tied to our faith & obedience in Him.

Thanking God for another day & chance to get it right! Take time today to thank God, spend time with Him, get into His Word, & show yourself approved!

Quote: “Does it make sense to pray for guidance about the future if we are not obeying in the thing that lies before us today? How many momentous events in Scripture depended on one person’s seemingly small act of obedience! Rest assured: Do what God tells you to do now, and, depend upon it, you will be shown what to do next.” -Elisabeth Elliot

Daily Scriptures 1/14/13

Scripture: Zephaniah 2:15 This is the rejoicing city that dwelt carelessly, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none beside me: how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! every one that passeth by her shall hiss, and wag his hand.

Nugget: This scripture is referring to the city of Ethiopia and Assyria; those there were boastful about the city & what it contained. Overall, they felt they couldn’t be touched! However, God continued to remind them who was in control & the city became a desolate place, even a place where animals took shelter.

We must be mindful & careful about a prideful, boasting attitude. This could be very damaging to what God has in store for us; so much so, that the very thing(s) we’re seeking, God can give to us & take away in an instance.

No matter where you’re going & what you’re accomplishing, do not lose sight of the one who continues to be a blessing to you—God should always be our #1 priority.

Quote: “The proud wish God would agree with them. They are not interested in changing their opinions to agree with God’s.” -Ezra Taft Benson
