Daily Scriptures 5/20/11

Scripture: Job 13:5 If only you would be altogether silent! For you, that would be wisdom. (NIV)

Nugget: Job had the right idea–he was surrounded by those constantly offering “advice” & doubting God—and instead of listening, he requested silence. Sometimes, we have to seek this same silence! A lot of talking, gossip, etc. can block what God is trying to tell us & the true advice we seek from Him.

Silence can definitely be a virtue. Although we may feel like there’s “nothing happening”, a lot can be “heard” in silence; most importantly God’s voice. We can also hear ourselves think!!

I’m definitely learning more & more about appreciating the importance of silence.

Quote: “We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature – trees, flowers, grass- grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence…We need silence to be able to touch souls.” –Mother Teresa
