Scriptures: I Kings 1:5-6 5About that time David’s son Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, began boasting, “I will make myself king.” So he provided himself with chariots and charioteers and recruited fifty men to run in front of him. 6Now his father, King David, had never disciplined him at any time, even by asking, “Why are you doing that?” Adonijah had been born next after Absalom, and he was very handsome. (NLT)
Nugget: In King David’s old age, his son, Adonijah, was declaring himself king & taking action to make himself king. David didn’t know everything that was going on & definitely wasn’t disciplining Adonijah at any time.
These scriptures make me think about some parents how do not discipline their children; instructing them on how to act, what to say, etc.; basically, instilling values & beliefs in them that will allow them to grow up into productive adults.
I’m not referring to spankings/etc., but words of discipline, instructions for life, knowing a child’s role, etc. Also, words that let the children know about God. For now-a-days, many children are telling the parents what to do; it’s as if some parents have gotten completely away from disciplining all together.
It’s time to instruct children; implant seeds in them in order for them to carry on into adulthood. Don’t be like David, never asking the right questions in order to guide the children. Discipline is needed; God’s word & direction are necessary.
