Rest and Sleep

Lately, I’ve been having various conversations about rest & sleep. The origination of these conversations dealt with my extreme tiredness due to many events that have been going on. To be honest, the events include an accumulation of things that have been going on over a long period of time. I feel that many of these things have caught up with me. Yet, I’m reminded of the importance of rest & sleep.

I know that I’m not one who gets “enough sleep” at night, but most times, I feel that I’m sleeping. However, friends have pointed out to me that I need to get rest! (Thank God for good friends who tell it like it is) It wasn’t until their advice that it clicked to me that there’s a difference between rest & sleep. Being the person I am, I had to look this up……..

My trusty reference, the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, states the following:
• Rest: peace of mind or spirit
• Sleep: a state resembling sleep: as a state of torpid inactivity

Rest, it seems that I’m struggling to get this. My mind is always going, I’m working to alleviate this & have been praying on it. But peace of mind & spirit is something that I want. Because I’m learning that with this, sleep is better. There’s no way to sleep with my mind always going.

Sleep, inactivity. Hmmmm, something that I’m not good at. Inactivity?? Wow, I don’t know how to do this, but I’m learning that inactivity is just as important as activity.  Sleep comes with inactivity; otherwise, our minds & bodies are constantly going. And believe me, no rest & no sleep will catch up with you! (It has definitely happened to me)

So what do I do now? I am praying on it, putting my quest for peaceful sleep & rest to the forefront. All things come from God—-I know this is achievable through Him. There are many lessons He’s teaching me & this one has truly opened my eyes.

May your rest & sleep be great—don’t take for granted the importance of these elements in your life as God wants us to have the balance we need in order to lead the lives He’s intends for us.

Until next time.

Blessings,
