Scriptures: 1 Samuel 3:7-9 7 Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD : The word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him. 8 The LORD called Samuel a third time, and Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” Then Eli realized that the LORD was calling the boy. 9 So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. (NIV)

Nugget: God had called Samuel three times, but he did not recognize God’s voice – so he thought it was Eli. By the third time, Eli, who knew he was not calling Samuel, perceived it is God calling this child. He was then able to advise Samuel on what to do the next time he heard the voice.

At times it takes an older and more experienced person to perceive what God is trying to do with you; to open your eyes to a situation, an opportunity, etc. Our role is to be humble enough to seek wise counsel. However, don’t just listen and receive it: but do it!
