For My Singletons, Pt. 18

Most times, as Singletons, we have a list of the qualities we seek in our future mates. The lists can range anywhere from tall, dark, & handsome to having good credit & more. The funny thing is, lately, I’ve been thinking on those who say they want certain qualities in their mates, but in turn, do they possess the qualities themselves? And on the other hand, there are some people who want a mate who do not know what they want. They just want “somebody to be there.” It’s an interesting predicament for sure.

There’s a Lyfe Jennings song called “Statistics”; one of the verses in the song states, “Don’t be a nickel out there looking for a dime.” This basically means, “Are you looking for the qualities in someone that you don’t have in yourself?” Are you putting requirements on someone that you don’t have yourself? For instance, are you looking for someone with good credit, but your credit isn’t where it need to be? Are you seeking someone who’s physically fit, but need improvement in this area yourself?

Regarding the list of qualities that you’re seeking in someone, have you reviewed your list lately? Are updates needed? There may be things you need to compromise on. Please note, I’m not stating to settle, but compromise. You may be seeking someone who’s 6 feet tall, but God has someone who’s 5 feet 9 inches tall. You may want a doctor, but God has a manager in store for you.

Relationships definitely aren’t easy, & I’m not one who will take on the attitude of having on rose-colored glasses when God brings my mate to me, but I want to make sure that I’m in preparation for this person. I want to be the best person I can be for him; because I want him to find his future wife in me, just as I’m seeking my future husband in him.

Complete a self-examination, re-evaluate your list of qualities. Seek God in all things regarding your future mate & be specific about what you’re seeking. We are in preparation, just as our future mates are.

Until next time.

Blessings,
