It’s so easy for us to see how others may need to “fix” something in their lives. We can see where they may need improvement; all the while we are walking around with our own areas of needed improvement too. BUT we are likely blinded in seeing these areas of growth for ourselves or we can be so focused on others that it keeps us from facing what we need to internally. Who wants to do this, right?!
God is working on me! For the past few months, I’ve been living and learning more about the process of being self-aware in the area of “sweeping around my own front door” (as some of my elders used to say). Instead of me focusing on the areas where others may need improvement, I’ve turned the mirror to face myself and I must admit that it’s not easy, but it’s necessary. It takes intentionality in action to peel away the layers of what we sometimes bury. It takes intentionality to be aware of oneself. It takes being open to vulnerability when you walk through the tough-love lessons spoken and given by loved ones, while being true to who you are, yet being open to who they reveal you can be or need to become.
It takes….so much….to be you!
BUT that’s living and learning.
Have you ever read the following Bible verses?
“And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye?” –Matthew 7:3-4 NKJV
Read them again!
These verses have resonated with me in another way. They are not about condemning the other person and correcting them, but about correcting the actions in oneself and having grace for others.
We all need to grow in some area! Let us keep living and learning!!
Until next time.

This was right on point and yes it’s hard to look at self ..
Amen, Victoria!
Thanks for reminding us that self-reflection is so important to grow personally. It is so much easier to point out others’ flaws or shortcomings and ignore our own. The verses shared remind us to be first be introspective and reflective before we criticize or correct others because what we may be criticizing may be the very thing we’re guilty of possessing ourselves. Thanks, Lisi!
Yes, Arlene!! Introspection is necessary. May God continue to give us the ability to see ourselves.
Amen!! Awesome word of encouragement
Thank you, Sonja!
