During the earlier days of my Christian journey, others would mention having “mustard seed faith” to me. I didn’t truly understand what it meant or what they were referring to. Somehow, I found out about the Bible verse: So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.” –Matthew 17:20 NKJV
What exactly was this mustard seed and how did it relate to faith? A friend mentioned to me that a mustard seed was very small. One day, she gave me a small bag of them. Then some things began to come together for me.
For those who don’t know, mustard “seeds are usually about 1 to 2 millimeters (1⁄32 to 3⁄32 in) in diameter and may be colored from yellowish white to black.” (www.wikipedia.org) They are little!!!
In the small bag of mustard seeds, my friend provided me with an amazing visual depiction that my faith, at times, didn’t have to be big. Small faith works too; especially when that’s all we may have. In time, our faith can grow from a seed into a tree. The seed is just the beginning.
Don’t underestimate the power of small faith. This level of faith speaks to God too. He still hears you and still answers. Don’t lose hope.
Until next time.
Blessings,
