Scripture: I Samuel 2:30 Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.
Nugget: The key to honor is to honor God – above all things; above all people. Eli was a priest of God whom God eventually rejected because he allowed his sons to commit serious transgressions in the temple (sleeping with the congregation; taking the best offerings, etc). Eli’s sin was not that his sons did not walk in the way of God – after all, each man must answer to God for himself; but his sin was that he chose not to offend his sons – mildly rebuking them, versus cutting them off.
