Daily Scriptures 7/23/12

Scripture: Psalm 131:2 But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content. (NIV)

Nugget: The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines contentment as: “the quality or state of being contented” (feeling or showing satisfaction with one’s possessions, status, or situation). Contentment is difficult for most of us to achieve. For me, I tend to stay “on the go” most days, rather than slowing down & smelling the roses. To me, contentment includes having peace in my life; sometimes, the “on the go” of my day & the stressors of life, remove the peace & contentment that I am seeking.

What do you need to do or remove from your life to achieve the contentment God wants for you? What do you need to do to calm & quiet yourself to have the peace that you’re seeking? The first step is believing God for it; the next step is taking action to get there.

Quote: “Contentment is not satisfaction. It is the grateful, faithful, fruitful use of what we have, little or much. It is to take the cup of Providence, and call upon the name of the Lord. What the cup contains is its contents. To get all there is in the cup is the act and art of contentment. Not to drink because one has but half a cup, or because one does not like its flavor, or because someone else has silver to one’s own glass, is to lose the contents; and is the penalty, if not the meaning of discontent. No one is discontented who employs and enjoys to the utmost what he has. It is high philosophy to say, we can have just what we like, if we like what we have; but this much at least can be done, and this is contentment,–to have the most and best in life, by making the most and best of what we have.” -Maltbie Davenport (Mattie D) Babcock
