The Bible verse 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NKJV) states:
No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
In my years of hearing this verse mentioned by others, they’ve stated, “God doesn’t give you more than you can bear.” However, this appears to be misused as temptations are mentioned, with God not allowing us to be tempted beyond what we are able & providing a way to escape in order to bear it.
This scripture came to my mind due to the many things that I’ve faced in the past few years (& some that I’ve overcome as well). I began thinking, “God, aren’t/weren’t you not supposed to give me more than I can/could bear?”; now this is me asking in the context of the misuse of the scripture. Because I began to realize that God does give us more than we can bear—–BUT the way that we face these things are in HIM, & not in our own power. The struggles, challenges, & occurrences in life go beyond temptations (mentioned in the correct use of the scripture). With the things that we face, come our growth in God, our relationship with Him, & a better understanding of all that can be done through Him & with Him.
God did not intend for us to go at the journey alone or in our own understanding; He provides Jesus, His word, love, guidance, & support. When you feel as if you’re going through too much & that He’s putting more on you than what you can bear, it’s very likely that you do have more on you than what you can bear alone. But if you look at this & open the door for Him to step in, there’s nothing that you cannot do or get through with our God.
Remember God’s word: For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. (Matthew 11:30 NKJV) Yes, there are times that we are carrying more than what we can bear, but it has a purpose—-for us to turn our dependency on God & not ourselves.
What are you carrying that’s more than what you can bear alone? Have you considered our God?
Until next time.
Blessings,
