Have you ever received a compliment or accolades for something and brushed it off? It could be as simple as someone saying, “You look nice today,” and you immediately change the subject to put the attention on someone or something other than yourself. You find it much easier for the attention to be elsewhere. Believe me, I understand! Why is it so hard for us to see in ourselves what God and others already do?
One of my favorite Bible verses is Psalm 139:14 NKJV: I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.
Even in knowing that I’m fearfully and wonderfully made by God, there are days that I must remind myself of this. I can look at how far I’ve come in many things, yet still condemn myself for how far I have to go. Regardless of the things I have yet to see in myself, I’m still His and made the way that He wants me to be. But do I see this? Do you see this for yourself too?
Do you see that He’s made you in His image to do great things and to be great? In fact, you already are. Flaws and all—you are His and He’s made no mistakes. Do you take time to look at yourself through a lens other than the blurry one you may have created? Do you know who you are and Whose you are? Are you kind to yourself in thoughts and actions?
Replace your thoughts and actions with what God says about you and how He treats you. The next time someone offers a compliment, accept it with a “Thank you” and a smile. The next time you want to lean towards condemning yourself, replace your words with God’s words, beginning with Psalm 139:14.
Do you see? If not, begin today!
Until next time.
Blessings,
